Minneapolis has agreed to pay $27mn to settle a lawsuit by the family of George Floyd over his death in police custody. Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, died in May 2020, as a white Minneapolis police officer, kneeled on his neck for nearly 9 minutes.

The lawsuit was filed at U.S. District Court in Minneapolis by Ben Crump, a civil rights attorney who has represented other families in high-profile police killings of Black men, and co-counsel Antonio Romanucci.
