The Lok Sabha on Tuesday accepted a motion to extend the tenure for the Joint Parliamentary Committee's report on the 'One Nation, One Election Bill.'
The Supreme Court is slated to hear on Monday a plea filed by Justice Yashwant Varma challenging his indictment by the three-member in-house committee in the cash-discovery episode.
The LoP also claimed that the Lok Sabha Speaker made an "unsubstantiated remark" about him before adjourning the House.
Earlier, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla objected to the DMK members wearing T-shirts with slogans written on them and said such actions were against the rules of procedure of the House.
The instructions came on a day when Parliament premises saw rival protests by the BJP-led NDA and the Congress-led INDIA bloc parties on the alleged insults to B R Ambedkar.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, Gandhi said, "I held a meeting with the Speaker. I told him that derogatory comments against me should be expunged. The Speaker said he would look into it."
Birla also informed that the Finance Minister presented the Union Budget 2024-2025 on the floor of the House on July 23, 2024.
Rahul Gandhi talked about the first sitting of the 18th Lok Sabha when the Speaker was elected, and he along with Prime Minister Modi, walked the Speaker to his podium.
The Congress shared a viral video depicting an exchange between Rahul Gandhi and the Speaker. LoP said his microphone was turned off and asked the speaker to turn it back on. The speaker quickly responded with a sharp reply.
Opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi, Asaduddin Owaisi, Priyanka Chaturvedi and others extended wishes to Om Birla after being elected as a Lok Sabha Speaker.
In Lok Sabha Election 2024, Suresh contested from Mavelikara Lok Sabha constituency and won by a margin of 10,000 votes against Arun Kumar of Communist Party India (CPI).
With no clarity from the BJP regarding the INDIA bloc's demand for the Deputy Speaker position, the opposition has nominated Congress MP K Suresh for the Speaker's post to compete against BJP's Om Birla.
